Become a home-visiting volunteer

Would you like to volunteer with us?

As a home-visiting volunteer, you will make a direct difference to a family’s life. Your support can help parents regain their confidence and increase a child’s chances of growing up happier and healthier.

What you’ll do

Every week, our home-visiting volunteers visit families in their homes for 2-3 hours each week to offer them emotional and practical support. We are looking for volunteers with a genuine desire to make a difference to a family’s life by offering them this time.

You don’t need any previous volunteering experience, but experience with children (as a parent/carer, or similar) would be great. Other than that, you simply need good listening skills and a “can-do” approach.

We do ask that you are able to commit 2-3 hours per week between the hours of 09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday for at least one year too. This works best for our families.

How you’ll help

Our families are often facing challenges such as financial difficulties, post-natal depression, multiple births, or disabilities. By visiting them once a week, you will offer them consistent and dependable emotional support at a time when they need it most. Your support can help them to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and forge links with the local community.

What you’ll get

Our volunteers often comment on how much value they get from the relationships they build with their families; they talk about how they get more than what they put in. It’s true that doing good for others makes us feel better!

You’ll receive comprehensive introductory training, providing you with the tools and confidence to work with our families in their homes.

And you will have ongoing support throughout your volunteer journey with us. This includes regular supervision, further training opportunities, and bi-monthly support meetings with the rest of the team.

“Getting to know each family and being able to offer support has been such a rewarding experience. I’ve come to realise that little things make a big difference: a helping hand, a listening ear, sometimes just getting out of the house.”
